In 1887, the Eldridge Street Synagogue was the first great house of worship to be built in America by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. Fraunces Tavern Museum
The perfect spot to celebrate Colonial America, the Revolutionary War and the Early Republic. Built on the city’s only remaining block of 18th century commercial buildings, this is an exact replica (the British shot a cannonball through the roof of the original!) of the tavern where George Washington famously bid an emotional farewell to his officers in 1783. New-York Historical Society Museum & Library
Founded over 200 years ago, this is New York’s oldest museum. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
Marvel at 19th, 20th and 21st century artists including Manet, Picasso, Degas and Pollock. Known as The Guggenheim, it’s as famous for its tower and rotunda – the only New York building by the legendary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright – as it is for the magnificent collection of modern masterpieces inside. Unusually for an art gallery, the exhibits aren’t traditionally divided by media or eras. Pieces are even displayed on the walls of the sweeping spiral ramp inside the rotunda. Solomon Guggenheim moved his eccentric collection from The Museum of Non-Objective Art to this iconic site in 1959.
